The Open Table Network (OTN), a growing partnership of Christian communities hosted by and for LGBTQIA+ people, our families, and friends, is calling on supporters to sign an open letter in response to UK government policies that threaten the safety, dignity, and rights of trans, non-binary, and intersex people.

The open letter, titled ‘UK Christians for Trans Rights - Open Letter to MPs’ addresses concerns regarding UK government policies affecting trans, non-binary, and intersex people.

The letter was created by Revd Sam Mackie, formerly part of the leadership team of the Open Table community in Derby, now an LGBTQ+ Chaplain in Essex. It urges Members of Parliament to take immediate action to protect the rights and dignity of trans, non-binary, and intersex people. More than 450 Christian leaders and church members have already signed it.

Why it matters

This open letter is a powerful collective voice of concern. It challenges the current direction of UK government policy and rhetoric, which is increasingly hostile toward trans, non-binary, and intersex people. From delays in banning so-called 'conversion therapy' to harmful narratives around trans identities, the letter highlights how these actions - and inactions - are causing real harm.

At a time when political decisions risk deepening division and discrimination, this open letter serves as a statement of hope, resistance, and solidarity. It is an invitation to say, as trans, non-binary, and intersex  people, and those who care for their well-being: we are here, we are part of this nation’s life, and our voices must be heard.

Kieran Bohan, Director of the OTN charity, said:

‘We endorse this letter, aligning with its mission to create and sustain safe, inclusive spaces hosted by and for LGBTQIA+ people in diverse churches across England and Wales. As LGBTQIA+ people of faith, we are often spoken about but rarely listened to. This letter is a chance to change that - to challenge injustice and call for policies rooted in compassion and equality. We invite all who care about justice and inclusion to stand with us.’
