Open Table Network joins coalition call to ban conversion practices in 2026

As a coalition, we’ve written to Prime Minister Keir Starmer... urging him to grant our Christmas wish: make 2026 the year this Government finally bans conversion practices.

We’re calling on the Prime Minister to make 2026 the year the Government finally bans conversion practices.

The Open Table Network is a proud member of the Ban Conversion Practices Coalition, and we’re calling on the Prime Minister to finally follow through on his Government’s manifesto commitment to ban harmful conversion practices.

The festive period is a time for celebration, community, and acceptance. Yet for many members of the LGBTQ+ community, this time of year, as families come together and religious services take place, can be a painful reminder that they are still not fully accepted.

Research from The Trevor Project and the University of Birmingham in 2024 shows that nearly one in six (16%) LGBTQ+ young people in the UK have been threatened with or subjected to conversion practices. That means thousands of young people are growing up being told there is something wrong with who they are, starting each new year feeling unsafe and unwelcome.

We’ve heard time and again that a draft Bill is on the way. Now, we’re calling for action.

As a coalition, we’ve written to Prime Minister Keir Starmer and delivered our letter straight to Number 10, urging him to grant our Christmas wish: make 2026 the year this Government finally bans conversion practices.

It’s time to give the LGBTQ+ community the gift of safety and acceptance by publishing a draft Bill to end conversion practices for good.
