Go forth and multiply? We did! Read our first annual report

The cover of OTN’s first Annual Report, showing highlights of the year from across our network

SINCE JUNE 2008 when we began, we have bloomed and grown!

Starting with a group of just six, we've turned Open Table into a network of welcoming, affirming LGBTQIA+ worship communities. We're multiplying and blossoming.

In March 2021, the Open Table Network became a charity. Every year, charities have to send a report to The Charity Commission to show that they’re doing everything they’re supposed to do, and not doing anything they’re not supposed to do. Our full report for OTN in 2021 is available to all on the Charity Commission website.

If you just want the gist, in half the time, here it is.

And here are the highlights:

  • In 2021, our network grew with the support of 140 volunteers, who gave around 1370 volunteer hours a month!

  • Independent research into the experiences of OTN’s community members in 2021 showed that:

    • 56% said being LGBTQIA+ is a barrier to belonging in a faith community.

    • On average, our members experienced a 40% improvement in well-being after joining an Open Table community

    • 87% feel less isolated and more socially connected after joining an Open Table community.

    • 92% said being part of an Open Table community increased their sense of belonging.

    • 89% said being part of an Open Table community provided a safe space for them.

  • In 2021 we:

    • supported 17 communities

    • relaunched one community

    • launched three new communities

    • had 402 contacts each month in our communities. (up by 58% since 2020), rising through online outreach to 5911 (up by 115%).

    • secured £9,500 from grant makers

    • began using online fundraising tools to support online giving, fundraising and free support via online shopping.

    • ran a six-week Crowdfunder campaign which raised £8,951 in one-off donations, and we more than doubled the amount of ongoing monthly donations. attracted £555 in donations from other sources, and an estimated £1351.50 in Gift Aid. This enabled our Coordinator to extend this programme of development for OTN until April 2022.

  • But...

We really, truly, are not secure:

    • Many Christian grant-makers can’t recognise or respect what we’re doing.

    • Many LGBT-affirming grant-makers (understandably) don’t quite trust Christians.

We are hard-pressed to keep going. We need a firmer base both of support both from organisations and individuals.

If you can help us out with funds - or help us with fundraising - please, read more about how you can support us, or talk to us soon.
