Open Table Bradford communion service with Bishop of Leeds

OPEN TABLE Bradford is delighted to welcome the acting Bishop of Leeds, Right Revd Toby Howarth, to lead a special celebration of Communion on 1st March marking the community’s third birthday.

In 2023 Bishop Toby celebrated an Open Table communion service at General Synod, the Church of England’s governing body, in which he reflected on his journey with Open Table, from his visit to the first community in Liverpool in 2019, to the launch of Open Table Bradford that year.

He was born in Kenya and educated in North London and the United States. He served in parish ministry in Derby and Birmingham, and has extensive experience in interfaith work and Islamic studies, including research and teaching in India and Europe.

From 2011 he was the Archbishop of Canterbury’s Secretary for Interreligious Affairs, and in 2014 he was consecrated Bishop of Bradford, and became acting Bishop of Leeds in 2025. He is married to Revd Henriette Howarth and they have three children.
