  • St Bride's Church Percy Street Liverpool L8 7LT United Kingdom (map)

Right Reverend Doctor John Perumbalath.

OPEN TABLE Liverpool is delighted to welcome the Interim Bishop of Liverpool, Right Reverend Ruth Worsley, to lead and preach at a special celebration of Communion to mark Trans Day of Remembrance.

Bishop Ruth has oversight of the Church of England in the diocese which covers Merseyside north of the River Mersey, south-west Lancashire, western Greater Manchester, and part of northern Cheshire.

Bishop Ruth studied theology and trained as a nurse in Manchester in the 1980s, where she responded to a call to support the pastoral ministry of her local church. In the 1990s she trained for ordination in Nottingham, and served there for fourteen years as a parish priest, and as Dean of Women’s Ministry.

She became an Honorary Chaplain to the Queen in 2009, and served churches in London and Wiltshire until she became Bishop of Taunton in 2015. In 2020 she became Acting Bishop of Bath and Wells, then Acting Bishop of Coventry in 2023. She became Interim Bishop of Liverpool in 2025.

Ruth’s personal ministry is driven by a care for the most vulnerable in our society and from that, striving to work with other faith groups and organisations to give them the right kind of support. As Bishop of Taunton, she supported Rainbow Church in the Diocese of Bath and Wells, the forerunner of the Open Table Taunton community.

Refreshments from 6pm, Communion service at 6.30pm.
