OPEN TABLE CANTERBURY is delighted to welcome the Bishop of Dover, Right Revd Rose Hudson-Wilkin, to preach and preside at a special celebration of Communion this month.
Bishop Rose has oversight for Canterbury Diocese in the Church of England, and works closely with the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.
The Church of England’s first black woman bishop, Rose was born and raised in Jamaica, graduated from Birmingham University, and trained for ordination at Queens College Birmingham.
In 2007 she was appointed as a Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen and in 2010, she became the first female appointed to the position of the 79th Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons.
She has twice represented the Church of England at the World Council of Churches (in Zimbabwe & Brazil).
She also served as a Selection Secretary for the Church of England, helping to select people seeking to test their vocation to the ministry. She does numerous preaching and speaking engagements nationally (and occasionally overseas). She has wide experience of media engagement including religious broadcasting.
