In light of recent events, including the violent deaths of Sarah Everard, Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman, Savera UK Youth, which campaigns against abuse, violence and harmful practices in the UK, and other young activists, will put their questions to a panel of community leaders and representatives, including OTN Coordinator Kieran Bohan.
Kieran’s background is in education, youth and community work. He has been involved with the Open Table community since it began in June 2008. Between 2005 and 2015 he ran the UK’s longest running LGBT+ youth group, GYRO, in Liverpool. Between 2016 and 2020 he was also a part-time chaplain for the YMCA, which included supporting women and families seeking refuge from domestic abuse.
Other panellists will include:
Labour MP Kim Johnson
Tracey Gore, Chair of Liverpool’s Race Equality Task Force
David Derefaka, BME Community Development Officer in St Helens
Manchester Councillor Rabnawaz Akbar
Emily Spurrell, Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner
Afrah Qassim, CEO & Founder of Savera UK.
The event will be chaired by Gamiel Yafai, Managing Director of Diversity Marketplace.
The evening will include a discussion on the impact that the issue of violence and abuse has on the community and our youth, as well as how local groups and communities are working towards eradicating them.
Key questions will come from young people and have the opportunity to submit questions ahead of the event. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to ask further questions in a Q&A session.
We intend this online event to be a group discussion, therefore this will be delivered as a Zoom video call rather than in webinar format. This means you’ll be able to keep your camera on if you wish.
