Trans Day of Remembrance online commemoration (BSL interpreted)

St Bride’s Liverpool, home of the first Open Table community, where this Coming Out Day service was recorded

ON FRIDAY 20th November at 7.00pm GMT we're publishing the second of a series of monthly worship videos on our YouTube channel. The video includes British Sign Language interpretation and captions to make it more accessible.

Please subscribe for reminders of when this and other new videos are published.

This month we are honouring Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR for short).

TDOR is an annual observance on 20th November in memory of the trans people who lost their lives through acts of anti-trans violence in the past year.

This is why we are commemorating TDOR:

This article gives a glimpse of some of the circumstances in which trans people have died because of anti-trans violence this year. It mentions the figure of 350. By the time we put together our vigil the number of reports of deaths between 1st October 2019 and 30th September 2020 had risen to 387 from 36 countries. Last Friday, the official list was completed, and the final figure had risen to 430. Source: tdor.translivesmatter.info/reports

These are just the people for whom the cause or motive was recorded. There may be more. On our YouTube channel this Friday 7pm we will remember them.

The vigil will be over by 7.45pm, after which there will be the option to join a Zoom call for mutual support for those affected by the issues raised in the vigil. We will share the Zoom link in the Facebook event, and YouTube on Friday evening.

The vigil will be led by our Co-Chairs Alex Clare-Young and Sarah Hobbs, both trans advocates. If you haven't met them yet, you can watch Alex's intro video here and Sarah's intro video here.

These monthly videos are now possible thanks to the grant we have received from the National Lottery Community Fund, to support our efforts to reach more Isolated members of our communities, and connect with our Open Table communities which have been unable to meet in recent months.

NEXT MONTH: Our Open Table Liverpool community will lead an online carol service to celebrate Advent and Christmas, on Sunday 20th December at 6.30pm.

Join us live online, or later at your leisure. YOU are more than welcome - tell your friends!
