Well, You Made Us, Didn’t You? - A reflection on Body, Mind, Spirit by OTN Trustee Lucy Berry
FEBRUARY is LGBT+ History Month, an annual celebration of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans & non-binary history. This year’s theme is Body, Mind, Spirit.
We’ve asked our Patrons and Trustees to share their thoughts on this theme. Here is our Trustee Lucy Berry's response in poetry:
Well, you made us, didn’t You?
You, the God of Three Persons made us
didn’t You?
Made us in Your image,
didn’t You?
Male and Female, created You us?
And what can we draw from that?
We can draw from that
and paint from that
and sculpt from that
compose from that,
and repose in that.
In that, our making,
our breathtaking
making
is in the image of
You, male-and-female
divine, kind,
kind of humankind spirit:
Great-God of Three Persons.
Parent, who imagined us and formed us.
Child, birthed to stand with us and for us.
Spirit, sticking with us, invisible friend
to the end.
God the Mind, who spoke us into being.
Christ the Body who stood up for us.
God the Spirit who never, ever leaves.
God!
What an image to be made in!
A
creating
substantial
everness.
So be it.
